Dear Friends,

Communication.  You talking to me.  Me talking to you.  Both of us listening.

Communication has been the hallmark of my term as your Commission Chairman.

My office door has been open.  My phone number is listed.  My e-mail address is published.  We have held more public meetings during my term than in any previous term - District Town Hall meetings, Chats with the Chairman, public input meetings on certain issues - and you have attended, given us your ideas, comments, and opinions.

Commission meetings and Planning and Zoning meetings are broadcast live, taped and re-broadcast, are streamed live on the County web site, and are downloadable from the web site at any time.

You know what we do, when we do it, and why we do it.

That's open government, and I pledge to keep it that way.

My whole life has been spent in Douglas County.  You know me, and I know you.

I am your neighbor.  I travel the same roads that you do.  My children and grandchildren go to Douglas County schools.  My wife and I own a Douglas County business.  I pay taxes, the power bill, the gas bill, and the house mortgage just like you do, so I know how tough it can be sometimes.

That's why I have worked to keep your - and my - taxes the second lowest in all of metro Atlanta.

That's responsible government, and I pledge to keep it that way.

I am proud of the record of my first term, and I am asking you for your support and vote for a second term as your Chairman.

Thank you.

Your Neighbor, Your Friend, Your Chairman,

Tom
